Safe integration of ebuses into existing electric PT infrastructure

Pillar A: Safe integration of e-buses into existing electric PT infrastructure

This part of the project aims to integrate e-buses with existing public transport infrastructure. Taking different topographic and operational aspects into account, ELIPTIC identifies optimal battery and mobile energy storage design as well as charging systems. The project also tries to assess the potential of replacing diesel buses with more flexible trolley-hybrids. Moreover, Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) are tested in relevant environments, i.e. automatic wiring and de-wiring while driving for increased flexibility of electric bus systems or a multi-purpose “sub-station of the future” including charging options for e-cars based on innovative energy management and network based energy storage devices.

Use cases developed within this pillar:

  • Operation-optimized system of opportunity charging at bus depots (Bremen, DE )
  • Opportunity (re)charging of e-buses and/or plug-in hybrid buses by using metro infrastructure (London, UK)
  • Progressive electrification of hybrid bus network, using existing tram and metro infrastructure (Brussels, BE)
  • Opportunity fast (re)charging and slow overnight charging of electric buses based on metro infrastructure (Barcelona, ES)
  • Use of /tram infrastructure for recharging e-buses (Warsaw, PL)
  • Opportunity (re)charging of e-buses by using tram infrastructure (Leipzig, DE)
  • Opportunity (re)charging of e-buses by using tram catenaries and sub-stations (Oberhausen, DE)
  • Opportunity (re)charging of e-buses connecting Tri-city agglomeration based on trolleybus infrastructure (Gdynia, PL)
  • Replacing diesel bus lines by extending trolleybus network with trolley-hybrids (Gdynia, PL)
  • Replacing diesel bus lines by extending trolleybus network with trolley-hybrids (including demo of automatic (de)wiring) (Eberswalde, DE)
  • Replacing diesel bus lines by extending trolleybus network with trolley-hybrids (Szeged, HU)
