On Wednesday 14th March 2018, several ELIPTIC partners presented the project’s results at the European Electric Vehicle Congress (EEVC) in Geneva in a dedicated session. The congress was focusing on electric charging infrastructure.
The EEVC event attracted a varied audience in Geneva to discuss charging infrastructure for electric mobility. A perfect setting for the ELIPTIC project - which is coming to an end by the end May 2018 - to present its activities and results.
The ELIPTIC session was moderated by Karen Vancluysen, Secretary General of Polis, and it started with a general presentation of ELIPTIC by Thomas Mourey, from Polis, who presented the project, its three activity pillars and the project’s results regarding the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of electric busses.
Representatives of three of the eleven ELIPTIC use case sites presented their local activities and results. Josep Ariño from TMB Barcelona presented his experience of integrating electric buses into an existing public transport system (Pillar A). His presentation was followed by Marta Woronowicz from PKT Gdynia who presented the activities related to the recuperation of braking energy of trolley busses in Gdynia (Pillar B). The third presentation was made by David Talbot, from TfL London who focused on the multi-purpose use of electric public transport infrastructure, namely the London Underground (Pillar C).
Finally, the session was closed by Henning Günter from Rupprecht Consult who presented the conclusions and recommendations of the project, focusing particularly on the legal issues related to the production of electricity and the associated commercial transactions.
Interestingly, the conference was taking place in parallel to the International Motor Show of Geneva. Whilst electric cars are still not the most numerous on the manufacturers’ stands, one can hope that in the near future, ELIPTIC results will bring fruits and the installation of new charging infrastructure will have built the ground for a mass electrification of urban vehicles.
